"FRECKLES" LEARNS ABOUT HAY

"Freckles" is our latest addition to the Longhorn cow herd, born on December 11th.  Because of our mild winter (until now) our cows have been able to forage and get plenty of feed in the field.  Because we have gotten major snow this week we are now hauling hay to the cows.  This is "Freckles" first experience with hay . . . dry stuff that a person pitches over the fence.  It was funny to watch her the first time as she just stood there, watching all the other cows dive in.  She approached gingerly, took a little bit in her mouth but soon was munching down.  Now she knows!
(Side note:  she has "red stockings" and red tip on her tail to match her head and neck)

"HAYRIDE" for LONGHORNS

Snow finally came to dry southwest Colorado and that meant that we needed to start hauling hay to our hobby herd of Longhorn cows. They were waiting, even though they hadn't seen a flake of dry hay since this past spring.  And this is how we have to get the hay to them . . . on a toboggan.

SWEET LINENS for FEBRUARY

I love vintage linens and am delighted to own these sweet red and white pieces.  I am currently using them as Valentine/February decorations.  There are two crocheted aprons, one I purchased from a thrift store, the other is a gift from a farmgirl friend.  And, the two beautiful embroidered pillowcases that were my mother's.  I had them tucked away in a linen closet and just recently decided that they needed to be enjoyed not hidden away.
